South East Australia Network of Anthropologists
The South East Australia Network of Anthropologists (SEANA) is a new initiative begun by Lorraine Gibson (following discussion regarding such a need with Gillian Cowlishaw) which seeks to:
- facilitate a coherent platform for the advancement and discussion of anthropological ideas and theory related to the anthropology of south east Australia.
- promote the value and work of social anthropology to a wider audience.
- provide an avenue for the dissemination of information relating to the anthropology of south east Australian through, the circulation of papers by members and related authors; development of seminar/conference/workshops; advice regarding upcoming and related events/issues.
We envisage that this network will have both an advisory and development role, however the role and scope of the network will be subject to discussion by members whose input will drive its direction. Membership of this network is open to those who are eligible for membership of AAS. At this stage the network will have an organic and fairly informal structure whereby members will forward information of interest to Lorraine Gibson who will (initially), moderate and circulate this as appropriate. It is anticipated that members will dialogue via email and that those living in Sydney (where the majority of current members live) will meet for discussion of current projects/issues etc. on, say, a bi-monthly basis with an inaugural meeting planned for May 2008. If you wish to become a member of this network and/or have some information you wish to circulate via this network please contact (in the first instance) Dr Lorraine Gibson at the Centre for Research on Social Inclusion (CRSI), Macquarie University, Sydney lgibson@scmp.mq.edu.au
