AAS Code of Ethics - Proposed Revisions

As agreed at the previous AGM in Perth 2011, we are seeking feedback on the proposal to redraft Clause 3.7 to better reflect the operations of the Intellectual Property regime.

This is an on-going project, as the Executive was originally given approval to revise and update this section of the Code at the 2010 AGM. Due to the apparently contentious nature of this revision it has taken longer than anticipated.  The sub-committee established to develop these changes originally comprised Linda Connor, Alan Rumsey and Sarah Holcombe. In 2011 Helen Lee replaced Linda Connor on the sub-committee as in-coming AAS President. The 'final' draft, as provided here, was circulated to members for comment 2 months prior to the 2011 AGM, at which time some feedback was received and incorporated. This revised draft was discussed again at the 2011 AGM (see Pp25 AAS September 2011 Newsletter) and although there was some very useful discussion, it has proven difficult to follow this up and form another committee to progress the changes.

The additional sections are highlighted to clarify exactly which material is under discussion. This was an issue at the 2011 AGM when some members were raising concerns about existing clauses, rather than focusing on the new ones.

We would love your feedback and encourage members to send comments to sarah.holcombe@anu.edu.au

The cut off for feedback is June 30 2012 so that we can finalise this at the September 2012 AGM to be held at the Brisbane conference.
