Distinguished Lecture in Anthropology
The AAS has established an annual DISTINGUISHED LECTURE IN ANTHROPOLOGY.
The lecture will be delivered by an eminent anthropologist who has worked out of an Australian university or in Australia for the majority of their careers.
The lecturer will be asked to engage with matters of public interest.
Suggestions for topics and presenters will be invited from the AAS membership each year. Guided by these suggestions, the AAS executive will choose the presenter and the venue.
A university will be invited to co-host the lecture, and corporate sponsors will be sought. This lecture is a separate event from the AAS conference, although it may be held at the same time and in the same city.
It is intended to showcase what anthropology has to offer, aimed at a wider general audience from other disciplines and the interested public.
The inaugural lecture will be delivered in 2009 by Professor Ghassan Hage in association with, but separate from the annual AAS conference which will be hosted by Macquarie University. Professor Hage is currently the Future Generation Professor of Anthropology and Social Theory at the University of Melbourne
