The Association of Social Anthropologists of the UK and Commonwealth’s 2019 conference will be jointly hosted by the School of International Development, the Sainsbury Research Unit for the Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas, and the Department of Art History and World Art Studies at the University of East Anglia. It will take place in and around the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts at the University of East Anglia in Norwich on 3rd – 6th September 2019.
The conference invites participants from all areas of anthropology, aiming to encourage debate as widely as possible, across social, material, visual, medical, cognitive and linguistic fields. We welcome and encourage participants working outside of academia. Please read the conference theme here. The Call for Panels will open on January 7th, 2019.
An exhibition curated by renowned ceramicist Magdalene Odundo will take place in the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts throughout the conference. Odundo will curate an exhibition made up of her own works vis-a-vis chosen pieces from the Sainsbury Centre collections. There will a formal address by the artist during the conference.
