Submit to The Q Newsletter

The AAS Newsletter is a great opportunity for anthropologists in Australia, both new and established, to publish their work. The Editors provide as much editorial support as is required, and are especially keen to publish postgraduate work.

Suggestions for contributions:

  • titles and abstracts of Masters and PhD theses in anthropology that were awarded in the past 12 months

  • notices of forthcoming conferences

  • brief reports on recent conferences

  • notable appointments, retirements or honours received

  • postgraduate events and activities

  • short book reviews or brief notices regarding important new publications

  • short articles on issues of importance to the discipline

  • notices and articles of importance to the Society

Any contributions are greatly appreciated. If you’re in need of some inspiration for your submission, check out the Latest Newsletter or the Archive.

Please send contributions and queries to: the.q.editors.aas@gmail.com

The following resolutions relate to the publication of items submitted to the AAS Newsletter. They were passed by the AAS Executive on May 7, 2002.

  1. The Editor shall give priority to members of the AAS in deciding upon articles to be published in the AAS newsletter

  2. The Editor may, at his or her discretion, refer an article submitted for publication to an ad hoc Editorial Committee

  3. The Editorial Committee shall comprise three members of the Executive, one of whom will provide secretarial assistance. The AAS Executive may also provide administrative assistance if required

  4. The Editorial Committee may consider the matter by meeting together directly, talking by telephone or by video conference, or by exchange of emails

  5. The Editorial Committee shall provide its advice in relation to whether the article referred to it should be published. The Committee may, at its discretion, seek legal opinion in relation to the proposed article, should it have grounds for considering that the article may be actionable in law

  6. The Editorial Committee shall provide its recommendation to the Editor

  7. Sole discretion whether to publish the article or not remains with the Editor, except if one or more members of the Editorial Committee are of the view that the matter should be referred to the AAS Executive for a decision. In this case, the decision as to whether or not to publish shall rest with the Executive
