Call for Contributions

The COVID-19 pandemic is sweeping across the world at an unprecedented scale and speed and radically reconfiguring human relations, infrastructures, mobilities, and intimacies. At the same time, COVID-19 is being unevenly experienced and documented across the world, in ways that speak to the long-standing intersections of health with economy, society, race, gender, and other factors.

Against this backdrop, Oceania invites scholarly and non-scholarly contributions that examine or describe how local communities across the region are experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic. Aware of the numerous anthropological blogs and discussion forums on COVID-19, the proposed forum distinguishes in that it is a) explicitly Oceania-focused (a region that has received little media coverage of the pandemic) b) it invites contributions from both academic and non-academic individuals/organizations, and c) it invites multimedia contributions and expressions in different genres e.g. photos, photo-essays, dialogues, brief reports, letters, phone conversations, or more analytical pieces.

We welcome contributions from individuals and organizations across Oceania that speak to life and lives, as well as afterlives, in and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. The curated contributions will be published by Oceania in the first instance, and platforms for multimedia contributions (e.g. film) developed in due course.

We would be grateful if you could share this Call for Contributions widely with your own relevant academic and non-academic networks.

The deadline for submissions is 31 August 2020.
